A Whole-Home Custom Interior Design Project
This custom interior design project gave David Michael the opportunity to help shape an entire residence. Our work included millwork, cabinetry, furniture, lighting, and accessories. Each room has its own personality, yet the home carries a consistent sense of craftsmanship, detail, and character.
A Dramatic Foyer
The home opens with a grand foyer. A two-tier alabaster chandelier hangs above a 72-inch round table with a heavily carved pedestal accented in 24 karat gold leaf.
Inlaid credenzas, gilded consoles, carved benches, and sculptural accessories complete the space. Together, these elements create an entry that feels formal, collected, and personal.
A Rich Sitting Room
The sitting room has a warmer and more intimate character. Red Italian leather chairs and matching ottomans add strength and color. Brass nailhead trim gives the seating a tailored finish.
A fully upholstered rolled-arm sofa softens the room. The coffered ceiling and built-in display cabinets add architectural depth. The cabinets also provide a dramatic setting for the owner’s bronze animal collection.
Dining Room Furnishings
The dining room continues the formal tone of the home. A tray ceiling frames the room, while a large gilded chandelier anchors the dining table.
David Michael provided the custom-sized sideboard, dining table, dining chairs, lighting, and coordinating furnishings. These pieces create a complete setting for entertaining and daily living.
Owner’s Office in Solid Walnut
The owner’s office is one of the strongest rooms in the project. Solid walnut paneling wraps the walls and frames the circular window. Built-in bookcases with LED lighting and glass shelves provide display and storage.
Wall sconces plated in 24 karat gold add another refined detail. The sconces feature black Capodimonte-style porcelain rose accents and Belgian black marble inserts.
A custom solid walnut executive desk and desk chair complete the working area. French bergère chairs with down cushions and silk velvet fabric create a comfortable place for conversation.
Custom Walnut Kitchen
The kitchen combines solid walnut cabinetry with walnut veneer panels. Upper cabinets feature leaded seeded glass doors. Polished brass hardware adds brightness against the warmth of the wood.
A large island serves as the center of the room. Its distressed finish and rubbed-through black borders give it a strong, aged character. Inlaid drawer fronts add another layer of craftsmanship.
Solid Walnut Closet
The closet uses a simpler and more restrained design. Solid walnut cabinetry and polished brass hardware create a clean, practical, and refined space.
A Collected and Personal Interior
This custom interior design project shows how architecture, furnishings, lighting, and accessories can work together throughout an entire home. Walnut millwork, detailed cabinetry, formal lighting, antiques, sculpture, and custom furnishings all contribute to the finished result.
The home feels collected rather than decorated. Each space reflects the client’s taste while maintaining the craftsmanship and European character associated with David Michael.
